Beloved Mum

by Richard John Scarr
(Brighton, East Sussex England)

God knew you had reached your limits.
And had truly done your best.
To live by his commandments.
And now was time for you to rest.

Though tired from your endeavours.
Still you tried to carry on.
Always giving of yourself.
Till all your strength had gone.

He knew, that if he let you.
You would keep going till the end.
Not just our beloved Mum.
But everybody's friend!

So he placed his arms around you.
And said, in gentle tone.
"Though the World be poorer for it.
Child! It is time to bring you home!"
