You both took chances,
It was close a few too many times.
You thought it would never happen,
Not to you, especially not at one time.
Your jobs were always risky ones,
And as your children we both knew
That there was always that possibility
One of you might not be coming home.
We loved you in life,
And in death we love you still
Your lives are precious memories
We never will forget.
One by one we’ve slowly watched
As family has passed away.
You two were the rocks,
The ones who refused to leave.
God needed the whole family
Together, once again.
Our family chain is broken now,
But yours has linked because of Him.
As once was said, we love you,
Until we meet again.
(My sister and I wrote this poem after both of our parents passed away in a shootout, they were the last one's left in our family. They were both soldiers who loved and served our country.)
