The following are a collection of some of the quotes I have collected over the years for funeral services. I like to include quotes in the the eulogy, as a lead in to addressing the attributes of the deceased.
Even death is not to be feared by one who has lived wisely.
The following is an excellent quote to lead into the charitable, generous attributes of the deceased.
"The service we render to others is really the rent we pay for our room on this earth. It is obvious that man is himself a traveler; that the purpose of this world is not 'to have and to hold' but 'to give and to serve'". Sir Wilfred Grinfell
Here is another quote on generosity;
"That best portion of a good man's life, his little nameless unrememberd acts of kindness and of love." William Wordsworth
The following quote is suitable for when life has thrown a curveball, such as a terminal illness:
"Plan your future, but do it in pencil." Jon Bon Jovi
The following is a quote to address the fact that the deceased had issues in their life;
"The only normal people are the ones you don't know very well."
Just as a candle cannot burn without fire,
men cannot live without a spiritual life.
On life's journey faith is nourishment, virtuous deeds are a shelter, wisdom is the light by day and right mindfulness is the protection by night. If a man lives a pure life, nothing can destroy him.
Grief remains one of the few things that has the power to silence us.
