GOODNIGHT DAD

by R J Scarr
(Brighton, East Sussex, England)

Goodnight dad. God keep you safe
until we meet again.
You have left a space we cannot fill.
And loving hearts so full of pain.

Though you weren't one to say it.
We just took your love as read.
For we knew we were your very all.
You always showed what wasn't said.

We never knew a day of want.
You kept us safe in every way.
You nutured and protected us.
And made us what we are today.

And now we have to come to terms
with the fact that you are gone.
Tomorrow must start without you.
And all tomorrows from now on.

Dad, we'll really miss you,
in oh, so many ways!
And though you're gone from our tomorrows.
You gave us all such lovely yesterdays.

His Name Was Dad

by miyen
(Orlando,Florida)

His name was Dad,
we loved him so
his time had come,
he had to go.

When I was young
this man named Dad
could make me smile
tho' I was sad

He used to say
when things went wrong
"this too shall pass,
it won't stay long."

He was always there
to pick me up
and dust me off,
won't let me stop

I "should go on"
said dearest Dad,
"just do your best
and you'll be glad."

He told me truths
to guide my way
as they did his
from day to day.

He taught me strength,
this man,my Dad,
and to find laughter
when things seemed bad

"Be kind to others,
help when you can"
That's how he lived,
this man of men.

"Always be truthful,
do what is right,
this gives you peace
and rest at night."

He taught with deeds
not so much with words
as he followd the way
of our Lord of Lords.

He was courageous
and fought to the end,
but he just got tired
and could not mend,

His name was Dad
we loved him so.
So when God called,
we let him go

(ireland)

A flower may die
The sun may set
But a friend like you
I will never forget
Your name is precious
It will never grow old
Its engraved in my heart
In the letters of gold
r.i.p dad
I love you
Happy Father's Day xxx

Kids' Goodbye Dad Poem

by Mari Russell Stewart
(North Carolina)

We lift your hand
Now you can fly
As we have said our last goodbye

You've walked the bridge
You've crossed the line
Your final sigh, the final sign

Now you have gone
So you are free
We know that's how it's meant to be

A father's love
You freely gave
Now we go on, together brave

Comments: Very touching.
