Funeral Poems for Child
Full short his journey was, no dust; Of earth unto his sandals clave; The weary weight that old men must; He bore not to his grave. He seemed a cherub who had lost his way; And wandered hither, so his stay; With us was short, and 'twas most meet; That he should be no delver in earth's clod; No need to pause and cleanse his feet; To stand before his God; O blest word - Evermore.
The fairest lilies are the first to fall; The sweetest the first to fade; The fondest, dearest, best of all; At peaceful rest is laid. As some sweet blossom droops and dies; When blighted by the frost; He faded from before our eyes; And all too soon was lost. But in God's garden free from pain; Where grow His fairest flowers; We know that we shall meet again; This fairest bloom of ours. Ere sin could blight or sorrow fade; Death came with friendly care; The opening bud to heaven conveyed; And bade it blossom there.
No stain was on her little heart; Sin had not entered there; And innocence slept sweetly on; That pale white brow so fair. She was too pure for this cold earth; Too beautiful to stay; And so God's holy angel bore; Our darling one away.
A bud that the Gardener gave us; A pure and lovely child; He gave her in our keeping; To cherish undefiled. But just as it was opening; To the glory of the day; Down came the Heavenly Gardener; And took our flower away.
If only the sky could open; And his dear little face I could see; Oh, what a wonderful feeling; I know would come over me. But he is with the Angels; Far from sin and pain; Where Jesus said: "Believe in Me; And thou shalt see him again"
He was born to be an angel; Secure in our Father's care; And his dear little feet now patter along; The beautiful streets up there.
Our darling has gone to the angels above; Where there's nothing but happiness, joy and love. Gone from this world, so full of strife; Back to the God who gave her life. But rejoice that God chose our sweet flower for His own; And has taken her back to His Heavenly home.
My precious little (Name); You rest upon the stars. As we gaze upon you; We know one star is ours. It shines oh so beautiful; Just as you did on Earth. One day Mom and Dad will be one; For we too will leave this earth. Your soul has reached Jesus; To God we pray for this. (Name) do one little thing; Catch this great big kiss.
So we are glad; Not that our loved one has gone; But that the earth; She laughed and lived on was our earth too. Tears over departure? Nay a smile; That we walked with her a little while.
