Funeral Poem For Grandmother

by Debra Denise McKelvy
(Azle, Texas)

My Grandmother passed away December 30,2008, she was 85. I loved her so very much. A piece of myself has died as well. I miss her and want to just hold her just one more time.Just tell her I loved her one more time. Just anything one more time. I am not young, I am 48 and I just never wanted to let her go. She was kind and gentle and the sweetest lady. Her last few months we knew she was dying and we just got closer and closer. Now I just want to see her things and hold them and just smell her scent. I don't want to forget. I wrote these poems for her funeral and I would like to share them with the world of her last Day.

HOLD TIGHT

Angel Wings are upon us
To comfort and guide us
Holding Tight thru Nanny's flight
To be with all Gods children.
We long for a few more minutes or
even a few more seconds.
But Our Dear Lord and Savior says
"It's time to let her go. She will be in a better place.
Let her pain be little and her suffering be gone
for in heaven she will have none."
Goodbye Nanny we say, for be on your way.
We will meet you someday, up in heaven.
We love you and will miss you each and everyday
Until once again we meet that great day in heaven.

Beautiful Day

What a beautiful day it was when you went to those heavenly gates
No more pain and suffering.
We know you were eager and very happy to go.
The smile on your face and the peace you showed was priceless.
The lord came that morning to let us know he was here with open arms awaiting for your arrival.
All the family came that day to say the things we needed to let you know it was ok.
It was a blessing in so many ways.
We loved you and held your hand until it was time to go.
Oh... those moments went by so fast.
The expressions on your face when we spoke of seeing Poppa, Thelma, Wilma and Pat.
Especially seeing your Mother and Father once again were priceless.
We wanted to know if you wanted to go see Our Dear Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,
And celebrate New Years Day with those who you have missed for so many years.
And have the most glorious celebration and bringing in the New Year.
Oh! We said what a glorious gift that would be and even though your eyes were closed,
And you could not speak, that expresssion of shock and awe were all over your face.
Then we knew you were ready.
As the minutes passed and relief showed on your face, your breathing slowed and peace came over your face. We knew you had gone to those Heavenly Gates to the Grandest Celebration of all.

Beautiful Words
by: Blue Skies

Reminiscent of when my dear Daddy died when I was but 46, and him 81, 10 short days after his birthday, six days before mine. Your words are beautifully put and you surely have a gift to bring people where you are and what you are feeling to share it with them. Hope you continue with this as it does help both yourself and others like me who read them.
